Did you know that corn can sweat? On hot summer days, corn plants release water into the air. This is called ‘corn sweat.’ When it is sunny, water moves from the ground and the plants up into the sky. This happens when water turns into a gas. One big field of corn releases thousands of liters of water every day. That is a lot of water! This makes the air feel very wet. We call this ‘humidity.’ This is why summer days often feel sticky. Other plants like soybeans do this too. However, corn is the most famous for it. Next time you see a cornfield, remember that it is breathing out water! Some people like hot and wet weather, but others do not. What about you? Do you like the summer?
