📖 Read the story

Scientists found an amazing thing in deep space. They saw a small, icy rock far past the planet Pluto. This rock has a very thin atmosphere. An atmosphere is a layer of gas around a planet or a rock. Usually, small rocks do not have gas because they are too small. But this rock is different. Scientists watched the rock pass in front of a faraway star. The star’s light slowly went dark and then became bright again. This showed that gas is around the rock. How did the gas get there? Maybe a comet hit the rock. Or maybe the rock has cold, icy volcanoes. These volcanoes can make gas. This is the most distant rock with an atmosphere in space. It is very cold and dark there.
